Mmm… that was a tasty contest!
They tried to warn us that this one would get gross, and, well yeah, there were plenty of messy eaters this go-round. But whether burnt to a crisp or bloody as hell, Flash Feast also turned out to offer a pretty delectable spread. Perhaps not so surprisingly, considering what we like to publish, we saw a lot of bleak stuff here. More stories focused on hunger, whether insatiable or desperate, than on nutrition, decadence, or depraved indulgence. More growling bellies than bulging ones. But we also sunk our teeth into more than enough of the deliciously dark and offbeat to make us feel glutted.
We had a whole other batch of food puns cooked up, but they turned out pretty half-baked so we’ll just get to it.
The following writers had stories that avoided the cut for several rounds, but didn’t quite squeak into the Top 10.
